Nerang’s Academy Of Football Australia (AFA) has secured a new interim base for its off-season training program after a rocky run at the Mudgeeraba Showgrounds.
Due to council’s strict closure of our own Glennon Park fields during the off season (standard council policy to allow council-owned fields to rejuvenate and undergo repairs), the AFA requires a suitable place to undertake its intensive off-season training and trials programs.
Up until now, the training has been happening using the Mudgeeraba Showgrounds however the grounds there were proving to be unsuitable for high-level football purposes with wet weather impacts, uneven grounds, lighting issues and grass type affecting the quality and standards.
After many discussions we are pleased to announce that the Italo Australian Club, based at Merrimac, has been secured as an interim training ground for the AFA Nerang teams during this off season.
The grounds, which feature a full football pitch and other areas under quality lights, are currently not in use after the sudden closure of the Merrimac Football Club.
Nerang Soccer Club would like to thank the Italo Australian Club for the chance to utilise this space in the interim and until the Nerang Glennon Park fields reopen in the new year – we are sure it will be of great benefit to the AFA, to the Nerang Eagles and to the many junior players who so desperately want to train and build their skills ahead of next season.
The location is 18 Fairway Drive, Clear Island Waters QLD 4226 and we hear they will be opening the canteen (with some tasty stuff on offer) each training evening (Monday to Thursday inclusive) so please get down and support our AFA players and check out some of the top Gold Coast juniors in action training in preparation for the exciting 2019 season ahead.
Please check the AFA pages and website for further details.
