Nerang’s U14 Division 2 team faced off twice in two days over the weekend, making a meal out of the Mur’bah Warnings and meeting their match against Robina.
By Fred Stone & Luke Sorensen
Under the guidance of coach Fred Stone, the team looked confident on Saturday whilst Sunday – with only 11 players on offer – they played a hard fought battle that could have gone either way.
On the back of two opening wins for the season, the boys put in a solid performance for 6 goals and a clean sheet on Saturday, sending the Warnings back over the border to regroup.
It was a great effort and the Eagles played some nice football around a very bunched and defensive team.
Nic took two goals home, Raekwon 1, Liam 1, J Tean 1 & Connor 1.
On Sunday the 23rd, the Eagles (draped in the slick new Nerang strip for 2017) put in another excellent performance for a tough 2 – 1 loss to Robina.
Fielding just 11 players against 15 for Robina, they had no chance for rest with the very even game seeing Robina having the best of the chances in the first half and scoring 2 goals.
The second half – in particular the last 25 minutes – and it was all Nerang creating scoring chances at will but unfortunately, as has been the story every game, we just couldn’t finish them.
Ben scored his first goal of the year, chipping the keeper from 25 metres out with 15 minutes to go.
Our superior fitness showed with Robina running on tired legs but unfortunately we couldn’t capitalise on the opportunities.
A great effort that, if we produce this each week, will see us have a very good year.
