Eagles’ Nest Grows With Signing Of Gold Coast United Captain Acim Tomic

COUP: Nerang Soccer Club can confirm the signing of prominent NPL player Acim Tomic to the Eagles’ 2019 Premier League squad.

Tomic, who is the current captain of Gold Coast United, is already excited about the switch away from his role at the NPL side and has expressed his desire to immerse himself into the strong football foundations of the Nerang club – one of the Coast’s oldest family clubs.

“I’m looking forward to enjoying my football again … playing with my heart and remembering why I fell in love with it when I was just a kid,” said Acim Tomic shortly after putting pen to paper on his 2019 commitment with the Eagles.

Nerang’s incoming 2019 Premier League Coach Dave Benigno is not only optimistic about Nerang’s prospects next year, but also reuniting with Tomic after a year apart as coach and player.

“Acim’s decision to come to Nerang and play for me again is certainly going to continue to raise the bar for this strengthening squad,” Benigno told us.

“Acim brings such strength and presence to a team with his work-rate and confidence in his own ability.” he added.

Benigno and Tomic tasted victory together in 2016 when they led Surfers Paradise Apollo to Grand Final victory over Murwillumbah in the Premier League.

The signing of Tomic adds to the recent signing of ex Gold Coast City NPL player and 2018 Gold Coast United Strength Coach Tim Jackson to the Nerang stable for 2019, and will integrate extremely well with the impressive standard of juniors coming through into senior football at the club.

Both players have expressed their interest in taking on a supportive and integrative leadership role with the squad to ensure there’s plenty of opportunity for the current crop of quality Nerang players coming through to benefit from their involvement.

“Exciting times to come,” added coach Dave Benigno.

The marquee signings combined with the recent successes of the emerging U16 and U18 JPL squads at the club will likely set the Eagles as early front-runners in a reduced 8-team pack of formidable and hungry teams predicted to all set their sights on silverware in the 2019 Football Gold Coast Premier League season.

Nerang Soccer Club would like to send out a massive welcome to Acim Tomic to the Eagles family and we look forward to a great year ahead on and off the field with Archie on board.
