Eagles Soar Over Murwillumbah In Physical Clash Under A Full Moon

PHOTOS: Two for two! Our Eagles Premier Firsts conquered the mountain today with a stinging 4 to 1 win over Murwillumbah Warning in what was an at-times equally thrilling as it was frustrating match away over the border.

Despite dominating strongly for the first 20 minutes the Eagles couldn’t find the net and slumped into a physical contest of possession with the Mur’bah lads running up a tally of yellow cards and fierce contact over Nerang, sending both teams to the sheds at half time scoreless.

With the middle of the game leaving a lot of room for some composure and calming, the Eagles eventually returned to the dominent position on the pitch as the full moon rose, set off by an insane chest-catch to finish goal that was nothing short of world class. Warning responded quickly with an equaliser and their keeper took several classy saves however the momentum shifted back to be well and truly with Nerang again as the Eagles ran up a hasty run of late goals in the dying minutes to take a firm victory 4 goals to 1.

This gives the Eagles 6 points and equal second spot on the ladder and a GD of +4 going into round 3 against Bureligh Bulldogs – this Friday night home at Glennon Park.

Our Reserves were unlucky to not capitalise from their similar late run in their match earlier this afternoon. Despite having plenty of possession and some good form on the ball they struggled to get the play productively into the opponent’s box and find the net, conceding a frustrating 1 nil loss.

Our Women’s team got their first points on the board for the season this weekend, taking a gutsy win over over Palm Beach with 3 goals to 1.
