VIDEO & PHOTOS: A touching tribute and celebration of the late Bob Jeffrey’s life and involvement with Nerang Soccer Club was unveiled yesterday at a special ceremony attended by the Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate and special guests.
Hundreds turned out to honour Bob including past Nerang legends and local dignitaries as we heard wonderful tributes and speeches from the local councillor Bob LaCastra, our club’s own representative and life member Paul Cockbain, Matt Jeffrey on behalf of the Jeffrey family, and of course the mayor.
The new dedicated field will be known forevermore as the Bob Jeffrey Field and the unveiled sign will soon be placed in a prominent position near the club’s entry point.
What a truly fantastic turnout which showed the solidarity of the Eagles club and family – a legacy which no doubt is in part a direct result of Bob’s many years of dedication to the club, to football on the Gold Coast and to our extended football family.
Thank you to all the special guests including our local councillor Bob LaCastra, state member Sid Cramp, Mayor Tom Tate and Ruth Tate, all of our sponsors, all of our club players and members who made this day so special – special mention to Andy, Frank and the hard-working clubhouse crew for hosting all of our guests in such a well-looked-after way.
Oh and the first game on the newly-named pitch saw our Firsts team turn on one of their best performances in some time, sinking 7 great goals against 1 to take the win over Kingscliff – a fitting tribute lads, and Bob would have been so proud!
