Four Great Games for Nerang Juniors As U6, U7, U11 And U12 Teams All Hit The Grass Running Over The Weekend

A post-match wrap up and some great photos from some of the Eagles’ junior matches last weekend.

U6 Red – by Luke Sorensen

With this being just the second game ever for this team it was a tough challenge but the boys and girls did exceptionally well.

A much larger Robina team (what are they feeding those kids down there haha!) put on a strong game however our little Eagles never gave up and eventually put in some great saves and 3 goals of our own, despite the loss.

A post-match pep talk with Coach Luke and round of congratulations for a mighty effort by our U6 Red team

Muku was gutsy and determined up front, Nevaeh was solid for her debut match, Sophie was consistently on the play and the three-pronged moves from Dylan, Kyal and Lachlan proved tricky for their opposition.

We need to win the ball more, so next training will be all about winning (and keeping) the ball to increase the amount of touches we can get in a game.

Top effort by every single player!

U7 Blue – by Rebecca Mulcahy

Saturday’s game we played against Burleigh Blue, and while the score reflects a 7 – 1 loss, both teams were actually well matched.

We counted 12 missed attempts at goal throughout the game, which would have placed us in front – Coach Mark will be sure to spend some time on this at training.

After a couple of weeks of school holidays and cancelled games, the boys were a little sluggish to get going, but we have no doubt they will be back to their energetic selves in no time.

The U7 Blue team in action last Saturday

Congratulations goes to Eli this week for the kick of our only goal with some great leg work by David to get it to the net.

All the boys showed good defence skills throughout the game, stopping a number of additional attempts at goal.

U11 Cahill Joeys – by Sean Moyles

Our U11 Cahill Joeys ran home convincing winners despite Mount Tamborine’s best efforts.

It was a long wait for the second game of the season but when it came the boys were ready!

Angus, solid in defence, leaps ahead of his green opponents

A dominant display against Mount Tamborine’s Red team was capped by a goal in each half from Beau and Cristian.

There were plenty more chances for Nerang but some brave defending from their opponents, in particular the goalkeeper, kept the score down.

It was all smiles at the final whistle and now the boys can look forward to their first away game of the season with confidence.

Another solid strike on goal, stopped by the keeper this time

U12 Division 3 – by Rachel Syers and Luke Sorensen

These lads are on fire this year!

An opening round victory of 3 – 0 over Burleigh was just a sample of what was to come as they trounced the Musgrave Hill Mustangs on Saturday.

Lincoln sweeps in to take another corner – this game was his first run as a winger and he enjoyed the pace and space!

Our Eagles put in 7 goals to just 1 from their opponents, with several other stunning goals disallowed for offside – a new rule for most of these players which they are coming to terms with.

U12’s Goalkeeper, Will, spent the second half out in the field, dazzling his opponents with his multi-faceted game skills whilst Lincoln took away two goals, unlucky on another two being disallowed for being just a hair’s width offside.

The whole team were fast and deadly in attack, great effort by all.

Undefeated and looking like a powerful team under Coach Dane’s mentorship, the team has a promising year ahead.
