It was pure grit and some clever football that saw the Nerang seniors Firsts team continue their run towards a top four spot recently when they bagged a convincing win over then ladder-leaders Southport.
The win signalled the start of a crushing descent for the Southport side who have fallen off the points ladder and continue to slide as Nerang edges its way towards the top four sides.
Nerang made the most of an early free kick just outside the box to put them one up and despite some tantilisingly close shots and golden opportunities from both sides, the score remained at 1 nil for the remainder of the match.
It was a strong boost for Nerang and once again showed that the Eagles are fast becoming one of the feared sides in the competition this year – not to be underestimated even by the leading teams.
