2025 Myobrace Eaglets Program Soaring To New Heights

Nerang Soccer Club’s Eaglets Football Program has taken flight for 2025, with a record number of fledgling footballers hitting the pitch. The Eaglets Program is a specially designed program of football discovery for 3 to 5 year olds, with an emphasis on fun football gameplay, fundamental football philosophies, and activating a genuine love and passion for the game in our future superstars. This year has seen a surge in demand for the program, with all placements selling out in just a few days from the program’s initial announcement. Nerang’s Eaglets program offers one of the most affordable, accessible and comprehensive immersion platforms for football discovery in Australia, thanks in part to the generous support of its sponsors and partners. Our major sponsor this year is Myobrace Helensvale, whose input and contributions ensure that fees remain low and benefits high, with every participant receiving a full Eaglets uniform kit and a soccer ball to keep at the end of the program. The Helensvale branch of Myobrace are industry leaders in pre-orthodontic care, and are a notable Myofunctional Research Co. (MRC) flagship practice. By addressing the underlying causes of poorly developing jaws rather than mechanically straightening teeth with braces, their team of highly trained and dedicated staff focus on delivering effective early preventive Myobrace treatment. Featuring a unique clinic design, developed to achieve the best possible patient outcomes, the Helensvale clinic incorporates a dedicated education and Myobrace Activities centre where children can become involved with their treatment in a fun, interactive environment geared towards fostering compliance. This week, excitement filled the air as our Eaglets met with Myobrace representative Lisa Dickie, who handed out the brand new Eaglets uniform kits to all the kids, before they quickly organised for a series of fun activities under our Eaglets coaching team. The program is headed up by veteran former Nerang player and development coach Luke Sorensen, who celebrates 30 years involved at the club this year. “There’s a great bunch of kids in the group this year, and its been incredible to see the rapid improvement in just a few short weeks of working with them,” said Luke. “We’re continually developing and fine tuning the structure and systems of the program and its activities to create an environment that pulls together all the elements of the football ‘discovery phase’ of development, but also some deeper philosophies around freedom of expression, confidence building and generating familiarity with the football environment and team space. “It’s a little bit of organised chaos at times but we find by the end of the program the kids are beaming from ear to ear, and hopefully, if we’ve done it right, they’ve developed a real connection to the joy of the game, and a familiarity with the ball and the actions involved.” Luke thanked the sponsors and supporters, and highlighted the importance of investing in our youngest players. “We’re very grateful for the amazing support we get from sponsors like Myobrace, and of course the Nerang Old Boys & Girls social club who also fundraise for our little Eaglets. “A football club is only as strong as its foundation level, and right here we’re aiming to build a strong base – from our youngest and newest players all the way up.” You can check out Myobrace at their official website HERE and follow the official Myobrace Facebook also HERE   Unfortunately our Eaglets program is sold out for this block, but please follow our club’s social media for announcements on when the next term may be advertised.

Football Foundations – Skyridge Eaglets Program Success

PHOTOS: This year’s Skyridge Eaglets program has showcased some of the club’s newest and youngest participants in the game, providing football fundamentals to a select group of 3 to 5 year olds eager to play the World Game. In 2024 the club welcomed our new sponsor and partner for the program in Skyridge, whose support, alongside the Nerang Old Boys and Girls Social Club (Nobs), has been invaluable in ensuring the program has been able to be delivered with fantastic new equipment and subsidised fees, ensuring the program remains the most affordable of its kind around. The Skyridge Eaglets program was in high demand and hosted 20 exceptional young kids this year of varying ages and backgrounds, all coming together to take their first steps into the giant world of football. (Photos below) This year’s program also saw the arrival of Assistant Coaches including Lincoln Syers from our men’s First Grade FQPL team, and the return of young Kyal Sorensen (himself a former graduate of this very same program) who has since advanced to the highest levels of FQ Academy football as well as being part of Queensland’s National Champions team for indoor soccer (Futsal) in 2024. The program’s Lead Coach Luke said that this year’s fresh batch of fledgling Eaglets have been some of the best through so far in the year’s he’s been involved with it, with an exciting array of kids demonstrating some incredible skills and passion for football activity. “It’s been fantastic to see the rapid growth in many of the players, we’ve had some really great kids through who’ve shown tremendous courage and really embraced the concepts of the game in such a short amount of time,” said Luke. “It’s not just learning new football skills, it’s much broader than that, it’s all about the kids taking their first steps into a much larger world of group activity, of physical challenges, movements and coordination, focus and discipline, but above all loads of fun!” The Discovery Phase of Football Coach Luke says that it’s critical young players in this phase continue to develop a strong connection to the game, as it’s that connection which lays the foundation for passionate learning and resilience in the later years of their football journey. “The program aims to help kids develop a strong connection to the game in their early formative years, that they learn to love the game and associate football with fun and enjoyment, with a real sense of achievement.” “We’ve developed specific activities and games that put fun and excitement at the forefront, but also get the kids involved as a group and allows them to discover the basic skills and movements which form the foundation of football activity.” “It’s critical that young players, from the ages of about 4 up to 8 or 9 years, develop a strong affinity and love for the game first, and within that framework we will of course sneak in some ball control challenges, speed and agility, coordination and vision — a whole bucket full of core football skills both on the ball and off it.” “There’s no pressure, it’s freedom of expression and freedom of exploration, and the kids can go at their own pace, opt in or out as they please — something we believe is also vital to making sure that the kids embrace football as a whole, that it’s something they want to do, not have to do.” “They’ve all rapidly improved and developed new social skills, confidence and physical abilities, and there’s certainly been a few stand outs within some of the older kids who we’re sure will be back next year to step up and join one of our U6 teams as they move into the next phase.” Nerang Soccer Club President Fred Stone said the popularity and success of the program demonstrates that football remains one of the most sought after children’s team sports. “It’s great to see the demand growing and we’ll be looking to possibly expand the program in 2025 to allow even more kids to get involved and be part of the Eagles family down here,” he said. As part of the program, a handful of the Eaglets this year had the privilege of participating in a goal-shooting exhibition in front of spectators and members at our senior men’s FQPL team’s last home game for the season. Eaglets showcased their goal shooting powers to the cheers from the terrace, and shortly after a surprise visit from the Nerang Eagle mascot, they were tasked with leading our men’s senior team out onto the pitch at the start of the match — an exciting moment for all involved. The Eaglets returns in 2025, check our website and social media around Easter time for details of the next program.

U9 Eagles Head North To Victory

Under 9 Kangaroos Go Undefeated At Logan Lightning FC Twilight Carnival Nerang Eagles recently travelled north to take on the challenge in the Logan Lightning junior carnival event, drawing five opening games in their group stage against some tough opposition. Coach Michael Opie reports — Our first game against Redlands United was a tough one to start of the afternoon, ending in 1-1 draw. After a bit of a pep talk before the next game against Highifelds, the boys quickly regained their rhythm and came away deserved two nil winners. The next phase saw us take on familiar foe with fellow gold coast team in Musgrave throwing out their best, however our Eagles again too strong, taking a 3-1 win. Our next opponent were our hosts Logan Lightning, however despite their best efforts, their defence was no match for the finishing skill of our boys, with us coming out confident 8-0 winners and setting the momentum for Nerang and a chance at the title. Our last group game would come down to the wire, a decider to determine who would advance through to the semi final against a strong Saint Andrews team who had traveled from the Sunshine Coast. What a spectacular U9 game it was, with both teams having their chances to take the win, but with our boys holding strong and coming out 1-0 victors — progressing through to the semi final on top of table in the group. Our Semi final was against our M1 northern rivals Coomera, and it was again another tough team who threw everything at our boys, however we stepped it up another notch to close out the game and came away as with a 1-0 win. Well, onto the Grand Final against another St Andrews top team, and boy, what a game this turned out to be! Much deserved and to their absolute credit, our Nerang Eagles boys absolutely dominated their opponents in the final, hitting hard with an early goal to set the momentum our way. The boys kept the pressure for the entire match, putting away another 2 goals in quick succession. Saint Andrews scored a late goal, but it was too late and their run fell short … with our boys coming out as UNDEFEATED CHAMPIONS!!! Some great goals from several of the boys but one notable highlight was from Mason, who shot from well inside his own half to score a cracking long-range goal. Well done to both our goalkeepers Brian and Hamish, only letting 3 goals in for the entire tournament. Defenders Mason and Harrison were strong, and delivered solid defence every game. Our utility (multirole) player who played either striker/midfield Nihar, and Jasper who assisted in some great goals and scored several as well. Josh our striker who finished off some great chances, to our football playmakers holding the team together in Xander, Will and Couper, these boys were absolute work horses in the midfield with some awesome last minute defence and some unbelievable passing and shots on goal. Thank you to the parents of the boys as well. What a long day especially after a game in the morning as well, getting there around 3:30pm and finishing up after 9pm. As a coach to see our boys utilise everything which we work on at training, seeing it come together and to also see the sheer joy on their faces winning a Grand Final is the all the reward a Coach needs. WELL DONE YOUNG EAGLES!!!

Female Football Week Celebration Evening At Nerang Soccer

GALLERY: A few snaps from the fantastic evening held recently at Nerang at part of Female Football Week, showcasing and celebrating the continuing growth in the sport for women and girls. We were delighted to see a bumper turnout as our U11 and U13 Girls ‘ teams took to the field to open the night, with some incredible action on Field 2 demonstrating the depth and fast-growing standards of the game for girls of these ages. Following on was our FQPL3 Premier League Women who hosted Musgrave in the main match on Field 1, and despite some challenges and a late downpour, the women from both sides put on a show, with Musgrave finishing as eventual winners at the final whistle. Thank you to all the volunteers, coaches, referees, players and parents involved — a great success and we will certainly be looking to grow the celebration for next year’s event.

Taiwanese Academy LS Soccer Welcomed At Nerang

Friendship in football has continued at Nerang after this week’s return visit by the LS Soccer Academy squad from Taiwan. The team arrived on Monday for a one-week stay on the Gold Coast, and kicked off their football tour at Nerang on Tuesday with a full hit out against our own Nerang Soccer Allstars — a select team of U10 and a few U12 players from our own Eagles’ players. After several years hiatus due to Covid and travel restrictions, the visiting side from Taipei in Taiwan, returned to Nerang once again with a bright squad of talented and enthusiastic young boys. The game was a chance for some of our own Nerang players to experience some vastly different football styles and ability levels whilst sharing in the excitement of international football right here at our own club grounds. The teams were greeted by a stellar sunset afternoon at Nerang and played a full 2X 25-minute match, which ended with a 2 nil win to the visiting LS team despite some desperate defence from Nerang and some quality attack from the LS boys. After the game, a handful of the older LS Soccer players stayed on to do a full gameplay session with our U13 Div 1 team. The teams and coaches stayed on at the clubhouse for a typical Australian BBQ dinner, shared amongst the players and coaches. Following on from an exchange of gifts and commemorative items between the clubs and players, the Nerang players tried the famous Taiwanese pineapple shortbread cake desert for the first time, whilst it was lamington fingers for the visiting boys which went down a treat. The visit and exchange continues on from past trips and served to bolster the relationship between the two clubs, sharing not just in the football but the exchange of friendship and goodwill that comes with the game.

Junior Eagles Set To Benefit From New Structure

The club wishes to announce the appointment of Belinda Kitching to the role of Junior Coaching & Technical Director for the 2023 season, bolstering a period of reform in the club’s junior coach and player structure throughout the year ahead. The current Premier League head coach for Nerang has taken on this role and is looking forward to working with coaches and players to restructure and improve both the football environment at Nerang for our young players and the development opportunities for players to level up their football skills and knowledge of the game. Joining Kitching is our incoming Miniroos Coordinator and Nerang Eagles veteran player and coach Luke Sorensen who will be assisting to deliver positive reform in the way the club manages and operates the football environment for our youngest players. With Kitching’s technical experience as a former Matildas veteran player and renowned coach, coupled with Sorensen’s 28 years at Nerang as a coach, player, parent and committee member, 2023 is shaping up to be one of great opportunity and improvement in the junior ranks at Nerang. “We’ve already spent a fair bit of time assessing the game at Nerang and the way our Juniors and Miniroos are playing and training, and I’m pretty excited for some of the changes we’re bringing forward in terms of how they’ll benefit our kids,” said Luke when asked about what 2023 will look like at Nerang. “Whether it’s improving our grading process for teams, developing a better environment for our kids or providing more support, education and guidance to our coaches, there’s not a lot which hasn’t been covered. “Belinda’s input is going to be invaluable to the club and I’m looking forward to seeing how that affects our kids in both the short term and the long term. Sorensen said that the changes being brought forward will have an instant effect, paving the way for one of the most enjoyable and rewarding years for the players at Nerang. “We’ve identified key areas of improvement and moved quickly to implement that change, and there’s no doubt that overall we’re going to be seeing happier kids who are getting more out of the game in 2023 at Nerang.” “I think it’s actually one of the best times to join Nerang as we’ll be doing our best to provide more for as many of the kids as we can, girls and boys no matter their skill level from beginners through to some pretty advanced level stuff.” Some of the reforms include — A unified coaching directive delivering more quality touches and consistency in training systems Support for coaches to develop and apply improved football instruction and methods Changes to sideline rules and the expectations from parents and spectators An intermediate academy-style block training program for select players to supercharge their skills under top coaches The improvements being implemented for 2023 and the involvement of Belinda in bringing about some quality reform has been welcomed by the club’s committee. Persons interested in joining the junior coaching ranks at Nerang are asked to get in touch asap with Luke – miniroos@nerangsoccer.com
